Descriptions:

I have been slab building primarily for the past several years and, on many forms, I add volume with my fingertips. Using my fingers works, but sometimes parts of the pot bulge more than others, which isn’t ideal. So I loved how Taylor Mezo adds volume to her forms using her “mango tool.” Shaped like the fruit it was named for, the mango tool is made by attaching two small pinched bowls together to form an oval. Poke a hole in it for air to escape, then bisque fire and it’s ready to go.

In today’s post, an excerpt from her video Slab-Built Vases with Paper Templates, Taylor shows how she rolls the mango tool across a slab on a piece of memory foam, and gently pillows the clay outward. – Jennifer Poellot Harnetty, editor.
