Descriptions:
This video covers two topics, the first is a rapid recap of the following common question that I get asked a lot, “What type of clay should I use?” —often sparked by curiosity about the pink-toned stoneware I use (ES80), which is designed for reduction firing and won’t yield the same results in oxidation.
In this video, I throw and trim three different stoneware clay bodies to compare their workability, highlighting the pros and cons of each. Not all clays are beginner-friendly, so I hope this video helps you understand what qualities to look for when choosing a clay.
Following the quick recap of the above, this weekend’s video shows the glazing of these vessels and the incredible difference in the appearance of the pots once they’ve been reduction fired to cone ten, (1290ºC or so).
Thanks SO much for watching!
