Making Pottery in the Extreme Cold, One Hour of Throwing, Trimming, & Handle-Pulling

When the temperature drops to -9°F (-23°C), everything in the studio freezes—the clay turns to stone, and the reclaim bucket becomes a solid block of ice. So, what is it actually like to make pottery in such extreme cold?

This video documents my studio life during the coldest days of this winter. Despite the challenges (a broken heater, cracked greenware), the process of working with my hands remains incredibly healing.

In this vlog, I share:

How I handle frozen clay and keep the studio running.
My process for throwing and trimming cups.
Why I prefer hand-pulling handles over using extruders, and how to attach them.
Quiet morning reading moments with my son and making dumplings with my family.
