NCECA is so pleased to present the 2021 Emerging Artists! Selected by Jurors Brendan Tang and Louise Cort, this exceptional cohort reflects a collection of talent and innovative ideas. It represents the variety of backgrounds and educational paths that reflect the contemporary ceramic artists who comprise our clay community today.

Jurors Statement: “…we wrestled with the concept of “emergence” and searched for what it meant to us in this context. In the end, we aimed to celebrate and reflect our beautiful, diverse community, and in the spirit of an emerging artist award, we looked to create space for makers in the initial stages of their professional careers. This became the defining characteristic of the 2021 Emerging Artist selection process.

Our chosen six not only represent our thoughts on what is current in the field of ceramics, both formally and conceptually, but also speak to the era we find ourselves in. It was important to us to give voice to these creators who find themselves at the advent of their respective careers.”
