A damp box is essential to keep a consistent moisture state of clay bodies. To joint different clay parts together, it is critical to make sure these pieces at a similar moisture state. The damp box is helpful to keep the clay pieces workable for weeks. This video shows how I make a damp box for my clay studio.
This damp box is made of a large plastic container with a relatively thick (1-2 inches) plaster in the bottom. The plaster can store a large quantity of water and maintain a consistent moisture environment in the container. Check out this video for a step-by-step process on making the damp box.
I am Wanying Liang, an artist based in upstate New York. I record the process of how I work on ceramic sculptures. The videos are mostly slow, quiet, sometimes might be boring, but you may find them satisfying to watch, too.
I hope you enjoy and please let me know if you’ve got any questions down in the comments. Please subscribe to my channel for more videos on ceramic art sculptures.
Thanks for watching and I’ll see you soon with a new upload.
